Review
I enjoy reading paranormal and supernatural fiction, so I have to admit that I was a bit worried when I discovered that this book was categorized as a "romance." I do not mind reading romances, but I was concerned that what seemed like a romantic subplot would end up consuming the whole story.Boy, was I wrong!
Fisher not only created a realistic world in which the paranormal is accepted to a certain extent, she also made this gift that the protagonist has about as un-mystical as breathing. I figured that the protagonist would be Wiccan, or some kind of supernatural creature with powers that are beyond our understanding. I was both surprised and delighted when I discovered that Elzetta is down-to-earth and practical; she is the type of gal who you can have a beer, coffee, or iced tea with while talking about ways to cope with hot flashes.
The other characters are just as realistic; all of them have personality traits and quirks that breathe life into a unique and spellbinding story that is a break from action-packed paranormal novels filled with supernatural characters. There is romance in the book, but the plot of the book can stand on its own without the romance; which is what I prefer when I read novels categorized as "romance."
If you are looking for a romance novel like the Harlequin romances from the 80's, then you will probably be disappointed; however, if you are looking for a unique, realistic, and entertaining story that has some personality to it, then I highly recommend that you grab a copy of Curse Me Not by Elizabeth Fisher. I am hoping she has plans to make this book the beginning of a series, because I definitely want to read more!

Fortunately, due to her father’s less felonious North Carolina heritage, Fisher makes an honest living as a freelance writer, editor and graphic designer.
